BlueBerry – a blueprint for the EURACAN registry

Blueberry is a project funded by the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) aimed at developing a model for a sustainable and scalable data infrastructure that improves clinical outcomes for patients with rare tumors in Europe.

The data sources managed within Blueberry are cancer registries provided by the project partners:

  • Italy (INT, Istituto Nazionale Tumori)
  • Netherlands (IKNL, Integraal Kankercentrum Nederland)
  • Austria (Medizinische Universität Graz)
  • Norway (CRN, Cancer Registry of Norway)
  • France (CLB, Centre Leon Berard)
  • Spain (GEIS, Grupo Español de Investigación en Sarcomas).

Once a core set of clinical information deemed essential for the definition of the disease has been identified, the elements of interest from each registry (identified based on the aforementioned core set) have been harmonized to OMOP, establishing a local OMOP database of standardized and interoperable concepts for each participating center. The Vantage6 infrastructure installed at all reference centers enables the use of these harmonized databases for conducting federated multicentric analyses.
